The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe underlined the importance of the Human Rights Defender’s work

On May 28, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan had a working meeting with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe Dunja Mijatović in Strasbourg.

 

The Defender congratulated her on her election as the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe and presented the activities of the Defender's Office with regard to the events occurred in Armenia during April and May. The Commissioner's support and constant contact with the Defender in those days were especially important.

 

During the meeting, the Defender's activities related to the protection of rights of the participants in peaceful demonstrations and discussion of complaints against the activities of the Police have been discussed. The projects implemented by the Defender's Office on protection of the rights of women, children, persons deprived of liberty, as well as on guaranteeing the activities of journalists and in many other fields have also been discussed.

 

Dunja Mijatović stressed the importance of the Defender's role, impartial professional approach, as well as the effective work in the protection of rights and his assessments.

 

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen the cooperation and to intensify the joint work.
