The representatives of the Human Rights Defender recorded issues concerning the conditions of care and admission documents in 6 special schools of Yerevan

The Child Rights Protection Unit of the Human Rights Defender’s Office recorded issues in 6 special schools of Yerevan during the unannounced visits conducted in September-November.

The issues raised within the mandate of the Defender to monitor children's care and protection facilities are related to the conditions of children care, admission documents, sanitary and hygienic conditions of toilets and bathrooms, work of medical staff and the existing appeal mechanism in facilities.

The issues were identified during the visits as a result of private interviews with children, as well as investigation of conditions of care and documents that serve as a basis for their stay in particular facility. Discussions on the issues of the field were also held with the staff of special schools.

As a result of investigations the Human Rights Defender addressed official letters to the competent state bodies and clarifications were requested. Consistency will be demonstrated towards elimination of recorded issues.
