On Sunday, October 21, advocate Hayk Alumyan reported to the Human Rights Defender that his client's period of detention had expired on October 20, 2018, but he was not released from Vardashen Penitentiary Institution yet.
A rapid-response visit to the penitentiary institution took place immediately upon the Defender’s assignment. During the visit, the Defender’s representatives met with the advocates of the detainee, and with the head of the institution, and examined the grounds for keeping the person in custody. It was revealed that the detainee had been taken to the penitentiary institution based on the decision of a court, but the period of detention, set by the court, had expired on October 21, 2018.
The representatives of the Human Rights Defender raised the issue of the immediate release of the person from the penitentiary institutions. By the decision of the head of the penitentiary institution, the detainee was immediately released.
The Human Rights Defender attaches importance to the cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, the administration of the penitentiary and the advocate.
