Today, on May 11 the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan received Karo Yeghnukyan’s advocate Tigran Hayrapetyan, wife and daughter. During the meeting, the advocate raised issues with regard to allegedly postponed court sessions without any grounds, as well as charges brought against Karo Yeghnukyan. Issues concerning detention conditions of K. Yeghnukyan at penitentiary institution were also discussed.
After the meeting, the Defender, accompanied with an independent expert-psychologist of the National Preventive Mechanism visited Karo Yegnukyan at Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary Institution. During the private interview, K. Yeghnukyan insisted that the court sessions are postponed without any grounds. No complaints were presented regarding detention conditions, the attitude of penitentiary staff and health issues.
The Defender noted that his Office will remain consistent regarding the insurance of professional psychological assistance to K. Yeghnukyan.
The results of the meeting and visit will be summarized, and considering the arguments of the advocate, necessary steps will be undertaken within the mandate of the Human Rights Defender, including addressing relevant official letters to the competent authorities.
