The issue of permanent water supply in Baghanis was solved with the Defender’s support

During a visit to Tavush province, villagers of Baghanis in Noyemberyan community informed the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan that there is no drinking water due to the lack of water-meters.

Administrative representative of Baghanis informed the Defender that “Veolia Water” company has built water supply and drainage systems, however free of charge water-meters were not installed.

Within the discussion procedure upon own initiative at the Human Rights Defender’s Office, it was revealed that service area of “Veolia Water” does not cover Baghanis community. For that reason, the company has no obligation to provide any services in mentioned area and water supply and drainage systems have been built in Baghanis community in the framework of a charity project which is not related to the company.

As a result of further activities of the Defender’s Office with competent bodies, since January 2018 a contract was signed with “Veolia Water” company. Later on, the Defender’s Office was informed that with the financial support of International Committee of the Red Cross 200 water-meters were purchased, installation activities are in the process and water supply is already regulated.
