By initiation of the RA Human Rights Defender, the advisor of the Equality Division of the Council of Europe made a special visit to Yerevan. The visit was organized in the framework of cooperation between the RA Human Rights Defender and the Council of Europe.
The aim of the visit is to develop and implement a comprehensive project on the prevention of domestic violence prevention in Armenia involving all stakeholders.
Today meetings were held with the RA Human Rights Defender, as well as the representatives of the Office. During the meetings the directions of further cooperation between the RA Human Rights Defender and the Council of Europe were discussed. In the framework of the visit, there are also planned meetings with the RA Police, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Council on Affairs of Ensuring Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities between Men and Women, as well as with the representatives of NGOs, during which a series of fundamental issues will be discussed relating to the prevention of domestic violence in Armenia.
In the framework of the project with the Council of Europe, the examination of the provisions of Council of Europe Istanbul Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence and respective study of the RA legislation are intended to be implemented, as well as a contribution should be made to the adoption of the law on the prevention of domestic violence. In the scope of the future project, events aimed at raising the capacity of the Human Rights Defender’s Office are going to be implemented. Also, special events are envisaged for the civil society organizations and with the active participation of the mass media.
