The Defender’s representatives have visited the school named after V. Petrosyan in regard to pupils and teachers strike

By the Ombudsman’s decision a discussion procedure of the issue on his own initiative began based on the public information about unacceptable conditions of School after V. Petrosyan in Ashtarak. The Deputy Head of Rapid Reaction Department and the Head of Child’s Rights Protection Division made an unannounced visit to the School, and had conversations with the School Director, teachers and pupils. 

 

During the visit it was revealed that the school building conditions are in an unacceptable state, which is a significant obstacle to the realization of child's right to education and proper organization of educational process at school. It was also recorded that the number of classrooms does not correspond to the number of pupils, the toilets are in a poor condition, the school does not have a sport hall, computer science and chess classrooms. The classrooms and other areas of the school are in an argent need of renovation.

 

Within the discussion of the issue, the Ombudsman will require clarifications from the competent state bodies concerning the steps being undertaken for ensuring the proper implementation of the children’s right to education and renovation of the school, including information about dates.
