In Strasbourg Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Arman Tatoyan takes part in the Special conference of the Commission against Racism and Intolerance of the Council of Europe with participation of Ombudsmen of European countries.
Along with other problems, the conference main focus is aimed at the issues related to prevention of racial hatred, and cooperation with legislative bodies on the matter.
Participants of the conference highlighted the role of Ombudsmen’s offices in combatting race-based or ethnic-based hatred. That role should be displayed in improving relevant legal acts and promoting the state policy in this field.
Arman Tatoyan stressed the importance of aiming most active efforts at exclusion of hatred, which requires targeted work of all international competent structures. According to A. Tatoyan, not making such efforts would be extremely dangerous for the entire human rights system of the Council of Europe, as far as it inevitably leads to such cruel manifestations, as tortures, amputations, etc. The Ombudsman emphasized the importance of working on the matter both within parliamentary commissions and with individual deputies.
Participants of the conference also discussed legal standards of the Council of Europe for exclusion of hatred and focused on relevant new standards in the permanently changing challenges.
