A person who is being held at Abovyan Penitentiary institution sent a complaint to the Human Rights Defender stating that his right to education was violated.
According to the complaint, the state examination commission had refused to go to the penitentiary institution in order to hold the examination there, as a result of which the imprisoned person was not able to take his final graduations examinations within the specified time-period. It was decided to initiate discussion proceedings with a view to ensuring the person’s right to education.
In 2017, the person was given an opportunity to take his final exams and finish his higher education at university.
