The Pyunik union of disabled people in Armenia and the Advocacy Centre on the Council of Europe Standards (ACCESS) NGO took an initiative in organizing a two-days conference in Yerevan dedicated to the protection of social rights of disabled people.
The event was organized within the framework of “Promoting the Social Rights of Persons with Disabilities by Building the Capacities of Armenian Civil Society Organisations to Engage with Council of Europe Monitoring Mechanisms”
European and Armenian experts specialized in the protection of the rights of disabled people, disabled people, representatives from the RA Government, local and international organizations and the Human Rights Defender’s Office participated in the conference.
Head of Human Rights Research and Educational Center at RA Human Rights Defender’s Office, Lusine Sargsyan also had an opening speech. She highlighted the importance of opportunities for disabled people to realize their rights independently.
In addition to other questions the results of in-depth examinations on the protection of social rights of disabled people in Armenia carried out by European and Armenian experts in 2017, their recommendations, as well as concrete activities which will be used by representatives of state officials in order to amend the legislative framework and its supporting mechanisms were also presented during the conference.
