"The work of a journalist should be perceived as a support for the solution of the problem, not an obstacle.": Arman Tatoyan awarded a journalist

Yesterday, during “A Public Glimpse into a Closed World: Increasing Awareness on the Human Rights Situation in Closed Institutions” Awards Ceremony, Arman Tatoyan handed a special award to journalist Lusine Gharibyan for the article on “Lack of textbooks in the only Braille education school".

Last year, following that publication a discussion procedure was started based on the Defender’s own initiative.  The Defender’s Office made unannounced visits to the special school N14 after Nikoghayos Tigranyan mentioned in the journalist’s article and a number of other issues were recorded as well. Recommendations were made for their solution and joint work was undertaken with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia.

"The work of a journalist should be perceived as a support for the solution of the given problem, not as an obstacle," said the Human Rights Defender.

The Award was announced within the “A Public Glimpse into a Closed World: Increasing Awareness on the Human Rights Situation in Closed Institutions” project jointly financed by the European Union and Open Society Foundations - Armenia, and implemented by the Public Journalism Club NGO and Investigative Journalists (hetq.am) NGO.
