The RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has presented the Armenian experience, as one of the recognized in Europe, at a Regional Seminar in the Kingdom of Jordan. It will be taken into account during the implementation of the reforms in Palestine.
Representatives of the National Human Rights Institutions from dozens of countries, including France, Greece, Albania and others, have participated in the seminar, organized by the Penal Reform International (PRI) and the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) in Jordan to raise awareness of the NPM, as well as to adopt the best international NPM model.
“The field of torture prevention requires close cooperation with the civil society organizations and the independent experts. It is also necessary to establish high-level cooperation with the administration of the places of deprivation of liberty. It is important to gain the trust of the detainees and convicts aimed at effective protection of their rights.”, the Defender noted in his speech.
The organizers and the participants of the seminar highly appreciated the experience of the RA Human Rights Defender, and the rapid development of this institution in Armenia has been particularly underlined.
The possibility of presenting the experience of the RA Human Rights Defender as the National Prevention Mechanism to a number of participant countries was discussed as well.
Particularly, agreements were reached on conducting study visits from Jordan and Lebanon, as well as from a number of other countries for studying the Armenian experience.
