On September 11, the representatives of the Human Rights Research and Educational Center of RA Human Rights Defender’s Office together with the representatives of Winnet Armenia, the partner of the Winnet Europe, the European Association of Women Resource Centres, visited the city of Noyemberyan of Tavush region.
With the aim of ensuring the employment of women in the borderline regions Winnet Armenia establishes resource centers for women discussing the opportunities for women’s capacity building and economic advancement. Such centers already operate in the cities of Goris, Kapan and Meghri of Syunik Region. Nearly 100 workplaces were created for the socially vulnerable women, wool washing center was opened in Shinuhayr village, “From wool to carpet” initiative has been implemented. Women are also engaged in handicraft, which particularly interests tourists visiting the region.
The representatives of Winnet Armenia presented the membership terms of Women Resource Centers network, expressed their readiness to support the formation of a women group, the realization of the innovative concepts they proposed and the development of entrepreneurship among women taking into account needs and capacities of women and the region.
During the meetings the ways by which the Human Rights Defender may contribution to the women’s employment issue were also discussed.
