International cooperation is an essential precondition for the prevention of torture: The two-day international conference came to an end

On November 29, the two-day international conference dedicated to the 10-year of activities of the Human Rights Defender in the field of prevention of torture came to the end. # NPM_10anniversary

 

Participants that arrived in Armenia from around 50 countries and international organizations had the opportunity to examine the 10-year achievements and experience of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia as a National Preventive Mechanism through the exchange of experience, and to discuss the challenges that face National Preventive Mechanisms of different countries.

 

The panel discussion of the second day was dedicated to ensuring the right to health care in penitentiary institutions. Ms. Beate Rudolph, Chairperson of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) delivered a video message during the conference.

 

Ms. Marzena Ksel, the First Vice President of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, Ms. Erinda Ballannka, People's Advocate of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Abdelhak Eddouk, the Head of the Division of Protection of Human Rights in Places of Deprivation of Liberty at the National Council of Human Rights of the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as Mr. Suren Krmoyan, Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia presented the experience of their countries on the topic.

 

Arman Tatoyan, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia expressed his gratitude to all the participants of the international conference stressing that the experience of international partners and the implementation of recommendations made to the country are extremely important in identifying and solving the problems in the given sphere.
