Today, the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan received the delegation led by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir.
During the meeting issues related to the situation of freedom of speech in Armenia, the activities of media and the protection of rights of journalists were discussed. The meeting also touched upon the violence cases against journalists, obstacles to their work, as well as to the Defender’s ad hoc report.
Arman Tatoyan highlighted the importance of freedom of speech and the role of journalists in increasing public awareness, as well as in effective human rights activity.
During the meeting, the issues and new functions vested in the Defender by the Constitutional Law on Human Rights Defender were also presented.
Harlem Désir emphasized the important role of the Human Rights Defender in guaranteeing freedom of speech.
RA Human Rights Defender and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media reached an agreement of cooperation.
