RA Human Rights Defender participated in the General Assembly of European Ombudsman Institute in Bucharest

On September 20-23 the General Assembly of European Ombudsman Institute took place in Bucharest in participation with RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.

 

During the Assembly the RA Human Rights Defender delivered a speech. Arman Tatoyan presented the regulations of the new Law on Human Rights Defender, as well as the activities of the Human Rights Defender. A reference was made specifically to the work principles with state bodies and NGOs. In his speech RA Human Rights Defender underlined that in order to exclude alienation of the persons with disabilities from the society it is necessary to develop new directions for protection of their rights.  Arman Tatoyan drew the attention of the Assembly participants to the unacceptability of the nationality and ethnicity based hatred, to its unacceptable level in the region, stating that hatred can lead to serious human rights violations, including torture and inhuman treatment.

 

During the General Assembly an agreement was reached to hold consultations of the Executive Board also in Yerevan.

During the meetings of the Assembly elections of the President and the Secretary General of the European Ombudsman Institute were held.

 

The ombudspersons of Armenia, Artsakh, Germany, Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, Ireland, Moldova, Romania and other European countries, the representatives of international human rights organizations and legal scholars (Serbia, Germany, etc.) took part in the Assembly.

 

The General Assembly of the European Ombudsman Institute is organized once every two years. This year the Assembly took place in the Parliamentary building of Romania and also marked the anniversary of the establishment of Romania’s Ombudsman Institute.
