Today, following the Human Rights Defender’s assignment, the representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office made an unannounced visit to the “Armavir”, “Vardashen”, “Nubarashen”, “Hospital for the Convicted” and “Yerevan-Center” penitentiary institutions to monitor the conditions of detention facilities and observe whether the rights of more than 30 persons detained during 2016 July events were secured.
The representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office will examine issues raised in complaints addressed to the Human Rights Defender and the health conditions, medical records, conditions of detention facilities of Pavel Manukyan, Arayik Khandoyan, Aram Manukyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan, Hovhannes Harutyunyan, Gagik Yeghiazaryan, Manvel Atoyan, Armen Lambaryan, Andrias Ghukasyan, Tatul Tamrazyan, Ashot Petrosyan, Arayik Hakobyan, as well as those of Vardan Geravetyan, Tigran Manukyan, Vardges Gevorgyan, who had announced a hunger strike and of other detainees.
Before the visit, the representatives of the Defender contacted the advocates of the detainees, heard their concerns as to whether their clients’ rights are secured: these issues will be part of a separate discussion during the visit.
