On August 2, specialists of the Human Rights Defender’s Office made an unannounced visit to Nubarashen penitentiary institution of RA Ministry of Justice.
In the framework of the visit they had private conversations with Vardan Geravetyan and Tigran Manukyan, who are on hunger strike.
Vardan Geravetyan refused take the medication prescribed by doctor because of the hunger strike, and Tigran Manukyan did not make any health complaints. Specialists of the Office also examined their medical records and the conditions of the detention facilities.
During the visit, the specialists of the Human Rights Defender’s Office contacted Vardan Geravetyan’s lawyer.
Protection of the rights of persons on hunger strike is carried out in accordance with specific principles and is under the constant attention of the Human Rights Defender’s Office.
