On May 29, the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan had an official meeting with the President of the European Court of Human Rights Guido Raimondi in Strasbourg. Mr. Armen Harutyunyan, the Judge of the Court in respect of Armenia and Mr. Roderick Liddell, the Registrar of the Court also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties highlighted the experience of the Defender on providing special opinions to the Constitutional Court, developing legislative drafts, as well as the practice suggested by the Human Rights Defender on providing special opinion concerning the cases examined by the European Court of Human Rights, etc.
According to the colleagues of European Court of Human Rights, these new initiatives of the Human Rights Defender are international best practice and will further promote the implementation of the Court’s legal standards. The parties highly valued the quality of the Defender’s reports that are considered while drafting the Court’s judgments.
During the meeting, the participation of the Human Rights Defender in the execution of ECtHR judgments and cooperation with the Committee of Ministers were emphasized as well.
In his turn, Arman Tatoyan expressed his thankfulness to Guido Raimondi for appreciating the work of the Defender and noted that it will be further directed to the implementation of the Court’s legal standards in the country’s legal system.
