The Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan had a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet Jeria.
During the meeting, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia presented the priorities of his activities. Particularly, issues related to the prevention of torture, the rights of women and children, mental health, protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and other issues were discussed.
Arman Tatoyan noted that at present, the improvement and promotion of the country's human rights protection system is an active direction of the activities, particularly through human rights education and trainings. One of the primary goals of this work is the elimination of stereotypes, which often hinder the implementation of reforms. Cooperation with state bodies, civil society and international partners is also important.
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia stressed the importance of cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, including in the fields of torture prevention, the protection of women's rights, and etc. Arman Tatoyan noted that an active cooperation is also established with the Office of the High Commissioner with regard to the UN Universal Periodic Review mechanism.
The Human Rights Defender and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights agreed to further strengthen the cooperation.
