Changes of perceptions are needed in contacts with persons with disabilities. This was said by the Human Rights Defender during the meeting with journalists, noting that there are many instances of discrimination in this field.
“We shall exclude discrimination towards persons with disabilities, ensure accessibility, equality before the law, raise awareness, as well as refrain them from violence, abuse and exploitation”, said the Defender.
During the working meeting with journalists organized in the framework of the project “Promoting Human Rights Protection in Armenia for All”, financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Defender presented the issues of persons with disabilities recorded in the Defender’s 2017 Annual Report.
The Defender emphasized that we shall guarantee active participation of persons with disabilities in political, cultural and economic life.
“Such conditions must be established so that persons with disabilities are able them to independently realize their rights”, said Arman Tatoyan.
As a reminder, following adoption of the RA law “On the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and their Social Inclusion,” the Defender will be authorized to carry out monitoring on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the state of protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.
