Exchange of experience between the Armenian Human Rights Defender’s Office and German partner institutions

The representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office paid a 4-day study visit to Berlin organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.  The main purpose of the visit was to attend the sessions of the Petitions Committee of Bundestag and examine the activities of German parliamentary bodies dealing with human rights issues. In the framework of the visit the Defender’s Office had working meetings with the Chairman and members of Petitions Committee, members of Bundestag, as well as the representatives of Parliamentary Commissioner for the Armed Forces.

 

The representatives of the Defender’s Office had a working meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Ashot Smbatyan. Issues with regard the work of the Embassy, as well as the activities of the Human Rights Defender were discussed.

 

The representatives of the Defender’s Office had an opportunity to visit the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, as well and to get acquainted with international work of the Foundation, as well as discuss possible directions of cooperation with the Defender’s Institution.

 

The study visit enabled not only to discuss the German system of human rights protection, but also to present the Armenian experience, the main directions of the Armenian Human Rights Defender’s activities, as well as constitutional and legal guarantees thereof. During the meetings the importance of strengthening the institutional influence of the Armenian Human Rights Defender in improving legislation and law enforcement practices, as well as its active involvement in the international platforms were highlighted.
