Protection of human rights in armed forces is one of the main directions of the work of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia.
Effective cooperation with the Ministry of Defense has been established in this field.
In the 2017 Annual Report of the Human Rights Defender, a big section was allocated to the issues related to protecting of human rights and freedoms during the stages of conscription, ensuring the protection of human rights of citizens liable for conscription that are conditioned by the incomplete regulations, as well as recommendations proposed for their solution.
The issues, presented in the annual report, were identified based on the complaints addressed to the RA Human Rights Defender, visits to military establishments based on those complaints, and the publications of mass media and civil society organizations related to the protection of the rights and freedoms of the conscripts.
The Office of the Human Rights Defender has initiated a process of publicizing reports, which will be presented using infographics.
More information about the Defender’s recommendations on providing non-financial privileges to the servicemen and their family members, as well as the draft laws, developed and circulated on the basis of the examination of the complaints about the servicemen's rights, is available on the pages 266-302 of the annual report.
