In Geneva Arman Tatoyan raised the human rights issues of Karen Ghazaryan who is deprived of liberty in Azerbaijan

The Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan had a working meeting with the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia of the International Committee of the Red Cross Patrick Vial in Geneva. Among other topics, the issues with regard to the rights protection of Karen Ghazaryan’s who is deprived of liberty in Azerbaijan were discussed. As a continuation of the Geneva’s meeting, these issues were also discussed with the Head of the Delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia Claire Meytraud.

During the meeting with Patrick Vial in Geneva, Arman Tatoyan presented the concerns of Karen Ghazaryan’s parents and lawyer about his health state, as well as the necessity of special care and medical treatment.

The request of his parents and lawyer on organizing a communication in audio or video form with his family members was raised, since currently the communication is only in a written form, which does not allow the parents to have a direct contact with their son.

During the meeting the Defender also raised the issue of repatriation of Karen Ghazaryan’s. It was discussed taking into account that the International Committee of the Red Cross, as an independent and impartial humanitarian organization does not lead negotiations on behalf of states on such issues and only provides necessary assistance in organizational work.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working on the current, as well as other issues.
