The escorting of detained group members of armed attack on the Police Patrol Regiment Service by the Commander of the Police Accompanying Battalion must be immediately excluded

Based on advocate Lusine Hakobyan’s report, a rapid response group visited the Court of General Jurisdiction of First Instance of Shengavit Administrative District of Yerevan by the Human Rights Defender’s instruction.

The advocate expressed a concern that the detained members of the group of armed attack on the Police Patrol-Guard Service Regiment in 2016 may be subjected to violence.

Advocates Tigran Yegoryan, Davit Gyurjyan and Harutyun Baghdasaryan have also presented the same concern.

During the visit, private conversations were held with all the detainees in the court building.

It was found that they had not been subjected to violence.

However, concern on the possibility to be subjected to violence or other ill-treatment has been presented to the representatives of the Human Rights Defender during the private conversations at the court building.

This refers to the Commander of Accompanying Battalion of Police Yerevan Department.

According to the detainees, the latter beat them in the Court of General Jurisdiction of First Instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts on June 28, 2017.

Considering this information, the concerns of the advocates, as well as the statements of the detainees of the armed group claiming that exactly this police officer is the person who beat them, the Human Rights Defender finds unacceptable that the detainees of the armed group entered the Patrol Regiment Service are accompanied by this police officer.

The Police must immediately exclude the accompanying of the detainees of the armed group by or any interaction with the Commander of Accompanying Battalion of Yerevan Department.
This issue will be also raised in an official letter addressed to the Police.
