Representatives of the National Preventive Mechanism and the Child Rights Protection Unit made an Unannounced Visit to the Gyumri Child Care and Protection Boarding School #1 under the RA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, carrying out the task assigned by the Human Rights Defender.
The Office of the Human Rights Defender reports that during the visit the representatives of the Defender held private conversations with children living at the boarding school, as well as got first hand view of their material housing conditions. The situation with realization of children’s rights, as well as the attitude towards them were also examined.
Private conversations were held with the medical personnel, legal consultant, social workers and psychologists of the boarding school. The issue of ensuring healthcare, education, occupation for children, as well as a number of other key questions were discussed.
A thorough examination into relevant documents was conducted. In the framework of the visit a meeting was also held with the heads of the boarding school and a number of issues pertaining to the material housing conditions of children were discussed.
