The Human Rights Defender of Armenia based on the visit paid to the “Prison Hospital” correctional facility on November 5, launched an examination in a written form into the case with the health condition of Mr. Hovhannes Harutyunyan, a detainee of the same correctional facility who had sustained gunshot wounds at the Police station territory.
In particular, based on the information received during the above-mentioned special visit, an additional letter addressed to the Ministry of Justice has been tailored regarding the issues of Harutyunyan’s health and incarceration conditions, medical assistance provided to him and the examination of medical documents.
In the letter the Human Rights Defender once again raised the issues of performing Hovhannisyan’s leg surgery and starting an urgent detailed discussion of the medical conclusions and opinions by the foreign doctors upon their receipt, as well as urged to provide clarifications to the Defender regarding the discussion.
The Staff of the Human Rights Defender acts on the above-mentioned issues within the maximum capacity provided by its mandate attaching special importance to the detailed discussion and solution of any health problem of a person held in custody.
