On November 8, a working meeting took place between the Office of the Human Rights Defender, representatives of state and self-government bodies and NGOs on “Protection of Women Rights and Ensuring Equal Opportunities”.
The event – supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the American Bar Association in Armenia within the framework of “Promoting Human Rights Protection in Armenia for All” project – aims to promote the economic capacity of women in the regions, as well as promoting opportunities for them to engage in economic activity and overcoming stereotypes about women's role in society by raising awareness on women's rights.
"The issue of the full involvement of women in social, political life and labor relations remains problematic, whereas the creation of equal opportunities for women is a positive step both for families and for the sustainable development of the state," said Lusine Sargsyan, Head of Research and Educational Center of the Human Rights Defender’s Office.
During the meeting, issues related to violence against women and the legislation adopted for combating it were discussed, women's concerns were also raised. An agreement was reached to work together aimed at solving the issues in the named field.
