During 16th to 19th January the Adviser to the Human Rights Defender Sergey Ghazinyan and Deputy Head of Staff Vladimir Hovhannisyan conducted trainings for prison staff. The trainings were carried out within the project on “Strengthening the Health Care and Human Rights Protection in Prisons in Armenia”, which is conducted in cooperation with the Council of Europe, the European Union, as well as the Ministry of Justice of RA.
The main purpose of trainings was to strengthen the knowledge of prison staff members on health care in prison and rights of persons deprived of liberty. During the trainings topics regarding the specificities on medical ethics and vulnerable groups in prisons, the prohibition of torture and ill treatment in places of deprivation of liberty, as well as other issues concerning fundamental rights of persons deprived of liberty were discussed.
