On 21st May training on “International and domestic criteria for the protection of refugees and asylum seekers rights” has been conducted in Gyumri for the Border Guard Troops under the RA National Security Service operating at the “Bavra” border crossing point and Gyumri’s “Shirak” airport and representatives of the Passport and Visa Department of RA Police. The training was organized by the UNHCR Representation in Armenia and Armenian Red Cross Society.
The training addressed the international protection mechanisms of refugees and domestic legal regulations.
Within his speech, Adviser to the Human Rights Defender Sergey Ghazinyan highly appreciated the established fruitful cooperation between the above-named institutions and the Defender’s Office.
During his speech, the provisions of the RA Constitution and Constitutional Law on the Human Rights Defender on the Defender’s mandate and steps addressing protection of the refugees and asylum seekers’ rights have been presented.
Sergey Ghazinyan also presented “Enhancing the capacity of Human Rights Defender’s Office to monitor the situation of refugee and asylum-seekers in Armenia” Project which is jointly being implemented within the cooperation framework between the Defender’s Office and UNHCR Representation in Armenia in 2017.
