Presentation of an analysis of the criminal legislation from the perspective of CoE standards on preventing violence against women

On October 11, a presentation of the Report on “Analysis of RA Criminal legislation from the perspective of compliance with the standards stipulated by the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence” was held. It was drafted on the basis of international standards. While drafting the report, meetings were organized with judges, prosecutors, police officers, representatives of the civil society, as well as with academics.

 

The report was developed in the framework of the Project on Preventing Violence Against Women implemented by the Council of Europe in cooperation with RA Human Rights Defender.

 

RA Human Rights Defender, Arman Tatoyan, and the head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, Natalia Vutova, had opening speeches during the meeting. Representatives of state bodies, civil and international institutions participated in the discussion.

 

During the discussion, the head of the Human Rights Research and Educational Center at RA Human Rights Defender’s Office, Lusine Sargsyan and international consultant, lawyer Javier Truchero, presented the report, which is aimed at preventing violence against women and effective investigation of those cases.
